Palestine Action activist arrested after defacing real estate giant in Brighton

Dec 17, 2021

  • Brighton offices, owned by Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) have been targetted overnight in an action by Palestine Action
  • Palestine Action have been engaged in a campaign of direct action against JLL, undermining their operations in protest against their continued facilitation of Elbit Systems’ business-of-bloodshed
  • JLL – through their subsidiary LaSalle Investment Management – are landlords for Elbit’s headquarters in London, facilitating the UK operations of Israel’s largest arms company, which includes the manufacture of drones and other military technologies, which are sold to Israel for routine deployment in their repression of Palestinians.

Action has been taken overnight at the Jones Lang LaSalle’s Brighton offices, with activists spray painting “Evict Elbit” and covering the premises in blood-red paint, symbolising the Palestinian bloodshed from which JLL collect their rent. JLL, through their subsidiary LaSalle Investment Management, host the headquarters of Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems in 77 Kingsway, London. Elbit’s business includes the manufacture of combat drones, surveillance equipment, equipment for military vehicles, armaments and more – all of which are routinely deployed in Gaza or the occupied Palestinian territories, for the purposes of warfare and popular repression. It is with the profit generated from this which pays JLL’s rents.

JLL have ignored repeated calls to evict Elbit, choosing instead to continue collecting their blood-money and ignoring the war crimes facilitated in their properties. For this reason, Palestine Action have engaged in direct action against JLL and LaSalle Investment Management, targetting their offices and sites across the country. This action follows a significant day of action in October, in which JLL were simultaneously targetted in three cities – London, Manchester, and York.

Palestine Action will continue the campaign against JLL until they are evicted, and direct action will continue until Elbit Systems are completely shut down. The use of direct action to undermine British complicity in Israeli apartheid will mean taking on all complicit firms which operate in this country, with JLL and Elbit Systems just two examples of the dozens of firms whose profits rely on the continued subjugation of Palestinians.
